PUBG Corp sues Fortnite studio for copyright infringement

PUBG Corporation has filed a copyright violation lawsuit against Epic Games’ Fortnite, according to a representative.

Both PUBG and Fortnite are popular titles in the Battle Royale genre, and the corporation believes that it’s protecting its copyright by filing the suit. There’s a lack of details beyond what we’ve mentioned at the moment, so there’s no knowing how this lawsuit will turn out.

Aston Villa FC launch FIFA esports league in partnership with EGL

Aston Villa FC has entered esports in a big way, launching its own esports series – AVFC Gaming – alongside European Gaming League (EGL).

This league will see FIFA 18 be the game of choice, played on both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It will be split into four parts: a qualifier, a last-chance qualifier, a wildcard tournament, and the final.

Logitech acquires Beyond Entertainment

Community tournament organiser Beyond Entertainment has been acquired by Logitech – this includes its brand, website, and platform.

This deal is a way for Logitech to enable competitors of every level to compete, giving a platform for amateur and aspiring players. Beyond currently runs tournaments for Call of Duty, Halo, and Rocket League.

Mixer to bring 15,000 hours of esports content with ESL partnership

After celebrating being under the management of Microsoft for an entire year, Mixer has entered a media deal with ESL that will see “15,000 hours of programming” from Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, League of Legends, and Dota 2 come to the streaming platform.

ESL has an exclusive broadcast deal with Facebook for the ESL One series of tournaments, and Mixer currently provides replays for the ESL Pro League, so a similar situation could spawn out of the deal. No further details have been released at this time.

The 14-month reign of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds at the top of the Steam charts has come to an end, with Dark Souls: Remastered taking the crown and a madeover Raft nipping at its heels.

Battle royale spearhead PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds made it past the 60-week mark before its uninterrupted stay atop Steam’s best-seller chart game to an end.

It was the remastered edition of 7 1⁄2 year old modern classic Dark Souls, also reissued for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, that knocked PUBG off its well-defended perch, allowing players to visit or revisit the game’s iconic and beast-infested locations, from the depths of Blighttown to the heights of the Anor Londo citadel.

The original PC edition, first released in 2012, was notoriously unoptimised at launch, leading to the adoption of an unofficial community patch, DSFix, which was viewed as an essential component in restoring the Dark Souls experience.

With the arrival of Dark Souls: Remastered, which boasts a 60 frame-per-second screen refresh rate – even in the legendarily choppy Blighttown location – basic Dark Souls has been removed for sale on Steam.

In its place, existing owners are being offered a 50% discount on the revamped digital purchase, incentivising fans to double-dip for the sake of a smoother gameplay experience.

In addition to support for 4K resolution on PC, PS4, and XBO, other alterations include six-player multiplayer and the option of password-protected sessions.

With PUBG bumped down to second on Steam, it’s another remaster, Raft, that’s in third. First released as a free download from, and a huge hit on video and streaming platforms such as YouTube and Twitch, the seaborne survival game has received a comprehensive graphical overhaul along with multiplayer connectivity, reefs and islands, and an expanded selection of items, parts, sealife and crops.

Twitch Implement New Filters to Make PUBG Streams Easier to Watch

Twitch have rolled out new intelligent tools and filters for users watching streams of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG), allowing them to tailor their viewing experience.

Some of the most popular games on Twitch are of course the battle royale genre, with games like H1Z1, PUBG and Fortnite leading the way.

PUBG of course was one of the first battle royale games to become majorly popular for streaming, and often held the number one spot on the site for most concurrent viewers.

It has been dethroned to an extent but its main rival, Fortnite, but still attracts hundreds of thousands of viewers everyday, and some of the biggest names on Twitch still consistently stream PUBG over its counterpart.

And it is not difficult to understand why PUBG and similar games are so popular for spectators, with a single match typically taking no longer than 20 minutes, and can be particularly intense as it reaches the final few players.

Amazon owned Twitch have obviously taken note of the growth of BR, which now often surpasses major esports events in viewership, and so are putting some work into improving the viewing experience.

New tools and filters have been implemented so that viewers of PUBG can now sort streams by a two variables; the mode (solo, duo or squad) and the number of players remaining.

This allows viewers to make switch between matches as they near completion, tuning in at the most intense moments and cutting out all the boring bits.

The filters are akin to the map filters used for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive streams, which allow users to only view streams playing a certain map.

Given the information needed for these filters, it is likely that it is only possible with PC based PUBG streams, and may not be possible with console streams playing on Xbox.
